Errata for McClave textbook
Page 50, Problem 2.28. The histogram has a strange number, 42, on the vertical axis. In addition, the height of the columns for the classes cannot be determined, so question 2.28c can’t be answered. New Graph pdf or New Graph bitmap
Page 50, Exercise 2.30 refers to graph on page 25, but it's really on page 51.
Page 55, Exercise 2.43, answer on page 918 is wrong, should be 33, 175, 20, 71, and 1089.
Page 57, bottom, and top of 58, the distribution graph on 58 is described on 57 as a histogram, which is probably not the best thing to do and may confuse somebody.
Page 80, Exercise 2.97. May be correct, but wording should be revised. Change "about 95%" to "at least 95%" to better agree with Chebyshev's Rule. Teachers may consider discussing problem or telling students to use C's Rule instead of Empirical Rule. Data is skewed and normal assumption not justified, but students won't know that at this point.
Page 81, Def. of percentiles is “bad” in the sense that one needs to add in ‘at most’ before the p% and the (100-p)%
Page 81, Problem 2.101, parts a and b: Use of the word "likely" is vague. Book's answer uses +/-3 s.d. but students may interpret differently. Recommend changing wording or instructor should accept other answers.
Page 132, Problem 3.23 references a previous problem dealing with Benford’s Law. The reference is incorrect. The previous problem is 2.20 on page 40.
Page 132, Problem 3.25a--the answer in back (page 919) is incorrect. It is 10, not 6.
Page 135, Example 3.9 says refer to Example 3.6 but it should be 3.8.
Page 150, "Now Work Exercise 3.67d" near the bottom of the page is an incorrect reference. Perhaps the d simply doesn't belong there.
Page 156, Problem 3.70, no P(5) listed. This may not be an error, since it can be calculated.
Page 156, Problem 3.67a, answer in back of book is wrong, P(B)=.4 not .8.
Page 217, problem 4.64 references problem 3.19 and says it is on page 141, but it is on 131.
Page 259, Exercise 5.38 (d) should say "the weight will exceed 500 grams," instead of "return."
Page 310, Problem 6.34e. The student solution manual gives the table value for 2.20 as .4864 when it is .4861.
Page 325, Figure 7.4 at the bottom of the page, the z-sub-alpha on the right should not have a minus sign.
Page 379, The "Now Work" reference should be to 8.21, not 8.2.
Page 385, In the last paragraph, at the end of the second line, change "a" to "alpha."
Page 627, In the caption for Figure 11.15, the reference should be to Example 11.4.
Page 886, Table II f: The value for n=10, k=1, p=.20 should be .376.
Page 918, Answer for Exercise 2.43 should be 33, 175, 20, 71, and 1089.
Page 919, answer to problem 3.25a is 10, not 6.
Page 919, answer to problem 3.67a, P(B)=.4, not .8.
